Meet my litter crew
I don’t get it. I just don’t understand how people can throw their trash on the street, the sidewalk, or in the park. But there it is — scattered and drifting through the city — so clearly, plenty of people do it. And I want something to change.

That’s why, every time I go for a walk or exercise outdoors, I make it a point to pick up at least five pieces of litter. Four of them go into the nearest trash bin. The fifth one I take home. I take a photo of it and turn it into an illustration. I post these illustrations regularly on my Instagram account. It’s becoming quite the colorful collection. A messy parade. My #messyparade.

At first, I made small posters featuring my litter characters and hung them near the spot where I found the trash. Along with a message asking people to throw their garbage in the bin. But that didn’t quite feel like me — although I have to admit, I really enjoyed seeing someone take a picture of one of my posters and share it on social media.

I also believe our living environment deserves more love and attention. That’s why I’m picking it up again — the litter, and my #messyparade project. Starting today, June 27, I’m making a promise to myself: every two weeks, I’ll introduce a new member of the messy parade on my blog Three Nice Things.
Once every two weeks, there’s plenty of litter, yes. I hope I have enough discipline and let’s make this a very loud and large parade.
